Rural proofing is a long-standing process which requires policy-makers across Government to ensure that the needs and interests of rural people, communities and businesses are properly considered in the development and implementation of all policies and programmes.

A new series of rural proofing resources aimed at helping those developing and delivering services at a local level has been launched. Three resources are available for free download: A headline statement explaining what rural proofing is and the benefits that it offers; an insight paper containing examples of local level rural proofing in practice; and a briefing note in slide pack form providing easy access to the findings of the work and promoting the benefits and practice of local level rural proofing.
