This editorial by Måns Nilsson in ‘Carbon Management’ is based on a global study developed by Stockholm Environment Institute and partners which looks at the challenge of providing energy for development around the world while trying to slow climate change. He differentiates between providing access to basic energy services for the world’s poor, such as lighting, cooking and heating for household-level poverty alleviation, and energy services to support larger-scale, long-term development.
