Reduce energy consumption and improve air quality

LOCAL authorities, schools and other organisations will benefit from two pioneering wireless products which reduce energy consumption and improve air quality in buildings.

 

Its latest two products which require neither batteries nor maintenance, will be unveiled at the M & E Show next month (oct). Being launched is the EnOcean Current Clamp (patent pending) and the EnOcean Solar Powered CO² Sensor. These wireless, maintenance-free products are additions to the already successful Seamless Sensing product range.

The Current Clamp measures just 40 mm long and can be installed in seconds, without interrupting any electrical power; it is simply clipped on a single core cable to measure energy usage. Immediate energy values can be seen and used as an alert if too much electricity is being used.

The Solar Powered CO² Sensor is powered from indoor light. Installation costs are minimal and it can be mounted anywhere within a room without being the constraints of electrical power connections available. It’s a “peel and stick” sensor with no ongoing battery replacement. The CO² gas levels in a room are a key indicator to the air quality and staff comfort. It can operate for 17 hours in total darkness and is fully EnOcean compliant making it easy to integrate into a commercial building’s management system.

The Nottingham-based company has already devised a range of ground-breaking products allowing individual pieces of electrical equipment in buildings to be monitored second-by-second which are very straightforward to use without the need for any technical or dedicated expertise.

 

Dr Edward Mellor, founder and chief executive of Seamless Sensing, says that his company’s new sensor products for building are a step forward in the industry - they operate entirely without batteries and are absolutely maintenance-free.

 

“The current clamp allow companies to retrieve live information about a building’s energy use as its happening,” said Dr Mellor. “It can be easily and quickly installed and provide live information about electrical loads in buildings – many systems just tell you historical information not live information that can be actioned in the building’s automation systems.”


The self-powered CO² sensor is a world first product and is used for Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) monitoring, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.

Dr Mellor added: “Our Seamless Sensing CO² sensors now acquire higher quality data, as they can be freely positioned in a room. No longer must sensors be positioned for easy maintenance or where power can be connected and performance compromised. This obviously leads to more efficient systems which are lower cost to operate and improve occupants’ comfort.”

The Seamless Sensing product range is fully EnOcean compliant, making it compatible with more than 200 different vendors’ product and systems.

Other EnOcean products include an indoor solar powered temperature sensor and a weather station which monitors solar panels and how efficient they are.
