This conference, held in Brussels on 23-24 November 2010. Presented the main opportunity during the Belgian EU Presidency to take stock and discuss how we can improve our level of preparedness to tackle adaptation to climate change in Europe. Some 150+ scientists, stakeholders and public administrators discussed key issues that will need to be addressed further in our adaptation efforts, working within the broad framework set out by the Green Paper ‘Adaptation to Climate Change in Europe - Options for EU Action’ (2007), the official start of the European efforts to adapt to the changing climate. The objective of the conference is to develop conclusions on the following:

·         Ensuring a good knowledge base for all actors
What are main knowledge gaps? How do we organise the knowledge base so as to get the right information to the right place at the right time?

·         Adaptation and mainstreaming
Are policies and instruments adequate to deal with adaptation or are changes necessary?
How best to empower all levels of government, including local authorities, that are necessary for effective adaptation on the ground?

·         Economics and resources
Adaptation has financial consequences at public and private level, how can we handle these now and in future?

A large number of presentations are available online.
