Building Greener CommunitiesThursday 27-Friday 28 May 2010
Conference at London South Bank University, Keyworth Centre, Keyworth Street, London SE1 6NG
(Location: 2 minutes’ walk from Elephant and Castle Tube Station)
Carbon Descent and the London Borough of Lambeth, partners in the Ecostiler project, have been working with two estates and six schools to install renewable energy technology. This has involved the installation of insulation measures on the estates, as well as community energy efficiency outreach work and training for professionals. A number of feasibility studies for the installation of low carbon technologies have been completed, as well the most financially and energy efficient ways for Lambeth to manage these options. CHP engines are being installed on both estates, along with solar PV arrays. Energy audits have been completed with schools, and solar PV and thermal installations are underway. Finally the impacts of the technologies on residents and the school communities are being monitored, to investigate any changes in environmental knowledge and awareness.
The site visit (28 May on day 2) will be to the Ethelred and Roupell Estates which have undergone extensive refurbishments, installation of PV-systems, and district heating/CHP.
