OURCOAST is a three-year project commissioned by the Directorate General (DG) Environment of the European Commission to support and ensure the exchange of experiences and best practices in coastal planning and management. The first issue of a quarterly newsletter has recently been published, introducing various activities of the project. Through the Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) experiences gathered from different European Member States, OURCOAST aims to support the exchange of best practices in coastal management in Europe. It will eventually lead to the development of guidance for sustainable use of the coastal zone in Europe as well as to the encouragement of the coastal Member States to implement ICZM policy. The official start of the OURCOAST project took place in January 2009. In June 2009, the Inception Report was approved by the Commission and is now available on the OURCOAST website.
